About Nanticoke Fire Department(278 total words in this text) (1552 Reads)  The City of Nanticoke is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania and has a population of 10,995 residents (2000 census) residing in 5487 housing units (2000 census) encompassing an area of 3.5 sq miles. Our department, which is a combination department with an ISO rating of 5, it is made up of 7 volunteer fire companies that operate out of 2 fire stations which are City owned. Fire Headquarters is located at 2 E. Ridge St., and Station #4 is located in the Hanover section at 108 Espy St.
Headquarters is staffed 24 hours per day 7 days per week by 9 career members who work with a minimum of 2 firefighters assigned per shift. The City owns and maintains 5 of the 6 pieces of fire apparatus that operate in the City.
Currently our department is made up of the following apparatus:
* Rescue 1 - 1999 Mack * Engine 2 - 2001 Pierce * Engine 4 - 1974 Hahn * Engine 6 - 1965 FWD Tractioneer * Truck # 1 - 1999 Pierce Aerial
On duty apparatus respond not only on all types of fire calls but also on EMS calls, inspections, motor vehicle accidents, rescues, mutual aid and special duty calls. The total response volume for 2007 was 746 call responses . The department not only protects the 10995 residents of the City but also responds on mutual aid requests from neighboring Newport Township, Plymouth Township and Hanover Township whose combined populations of 19558 increases our covered population to 30,553 with a total coverage area of over 53 sq. miles. |
